Recipe Math | ||||||||||
At times we have a recipe that is used for a family but we wish to "cook it up" for a crowd. That means we have to fiddle with the ingredients and increase the output of the recipe. It usually is not a simple matter of just multiplying the measurements times 10 or times 5. Can you picture yourself measuring out 15 Tablespoons of water? Lots of room for error there, right? It becomes necessary to convert the 15 tablespoons of water into larger forms of measurement such as cups and ounces. Use the equivalents listed on the Measuring Up page to help you "upsize" your recipes. | ||||||||||
Dig out your family's favorite
recipe. How many does it serve? Suppose it serves 6 people and you need to
serve 60 people. That means that you have to multiply the ingredients needed
by 10 (60 divided by 6 equals 10.) Do the math, and send me a copy
of the recipe. I will add it to this site with your name on it!
There are other sites that might like your recipes and want to publish them. Try Aunt Libby's Kitchen for a start. They are also part of a neat recipe ring that would let you visit other recipe sites. |
